It’s been said that cars aren’t just machines to enthusiasts, they’re stories you can drive, each mile adding another chapter.  I’m Josh London, car enthusiast, amateur racer, tinkerer and black coffee drinker.  I’m fortunate to own some very special cars, each creating unique stories of their own.  The story of my McLaren 570s began like many others, this was the “one car I wouldn’t modify.”  Within a month of purchase, the car sat in pieces on my home lift as I began the modification process, starting with the addition of SOUL Sport Downpipes to add both volume and power to the 3.8l twin turbo v8.  In time I’d grow to learn that modifying exotics are just like working on any other vehicle, and the 570s is fairly straightforward to work on for the at home mechanic with the proper tools and determination.  The vehicle as you see it was completed within a year and all work featured below was completed by myself. Some people see a car as a way to get somewhere – enthusiasts see it as a reason to go.

EXHAUST / ENGINE / POWER

  • Soul Performance Products Sport Downpipes – Forced induction vehicles inherently have less volume in the exhaust system vs NA.  Exhaust volume is further reduced in the cabin as the carbon fiber monocoque has significant sound dampening.  This was rectified by the addition of Soul Performance Sport Downpipes which totally transformed the exhaust note and volume.  Note:  installing the downpipes myself was a significant job due to the very tight engine packaging.  I estimate that it took me close to 6 hours working alone.
  • Custom Top Exit Exhaust – To compliment the Soul downpipes I fabricated a custom top exit exhaust system, similar to the 600LT rear setup.  This shorter exhaust reduces both weight and increases horsepower by providing a shorter exhaust path.  To accept the top exit exhaust, I modified the existing engine cover vs adding the 600LT cover.  My goal with this car was not to create a 600LT clone, but to give the 570 an identity of its own.
  • M-Engineering ECU Tune – The ECU was sent out to M-Engineering for installation of their M Tuner suite which provides live map switching capabilities, custom data logging features and more.  Post tuning we ran the car on the dyno where it made 653whp and 608ftlbs of torque on 93 octane pump gas.  That’s an increase of over 150whp from stock with just downpipes, exhaust and software.

BRAKES / SUSPENSION

  • Six Piston Calipers and Carbon Ceramic Discs from factory
  • Swift Sport Springs added to lower ride height, while still maintaining functionality of adjustable dampers and front lift

WHEELS / TIRES

My goal for wheel and tire fitment was to maintain the factory 19 and 20 staggered setup but create wider contact patches front and rear to support the additional power modifications.  Many choose to upsize to 20/21 wheel combo.  For street driving I prefer the comfort and security of a wider sidewall and the added bonus is reduced unsprung weight over the upsized options.  Interesting note,  installing the Swift springs was one of the easiest damper installs I’ve ever completed on a vehicle.  The entire assembly comes out as one unit.

  • VR Forged DO3 Gunmetal wheels in 19×8.5 front 20×12 rear fitment
  • Michelin PS4 235/35/19, 315/30/20

INTERIOR / SAFETY

  • Custom painted interior accents to match the exterior color shift PPF
  • Alcantra steering wheel
  • Genuine McLaren Carbon Fiber interior trim
  • Custom lexan firewall allowing you to see into the rear engine bay

EXTERIOR/ AERO

My goal for the exterior was to personalize the car tastefully, with modifications that were functional and improved aesthetics.  All of the aero modifications brough over from the 600LT are functional and either create downforce or reduce drag.  Swapping the entire rear end and diffuser with a carbon fiber 600lt rear end presented quite the challenge as it required not just disassembly but also transferring over of backup camera, parking sensors, wiring harnesses etc.

  • Car has been fully wrapped in Stek Automotive Dynoprizm Colored PPF by Menard Premium Detailing, with the roof wrapped in black vinyl
  • Custom painted engine cover grilles to match colorshift PPF
  • Custom modified rear engine cover
  • Full carbon fiber rear bumper and diffuser from 600LT
  • Carbon fiber 600LT wing (custom mounted to 570S)
  • McLaren GT4 factory race car front canards
  • Smoked Reflectors
