What project cars lead up to your Porsche ownership?
The 997.2 is my first Porsche! After years of driving practical cars I was looking to go back to a good old manual sports car to enjoy driving in its purest form again. I have been riding motorcycles my whole life – that’s probably where my passion for enjoying the simple pleasure of pushing a machine along the road comes from. I didn’t want to lose the connectivity I felt between the machine and the road that is so important when you ride a motorcycle. As soon I bought my 10 year old Porsche 997.2 4S, I signed up for the local PCA driving event to learn how to drive the car on the track. That experience confirmed that I made the right decision with my car. On the complete opposite spectrum of cars, I had a classic Jeep CJ7 that I would take off roading out in the California desert.
What are your passions?
There is so much out there in the world to see and experience. My motto is actually a quote from my fellow German, poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe: “Nothing is worth more than this day”. When it comes to travel, food, watches or other nice things, I always try to find the best I can afford. Logically my search for my car led to Porsche and the 997.2 4S – one of the truest versions of the legendary air cooled 911’s with true hydraulic steering which lets you feel the road. It’s the perfect car to enjoy a day on the road. As a private stock trader I have a lot of flexibly when it comes to managing my free time. I am a big foodie so naturally I use my time to explore great new flavors around town, the world, or behind my own stove as a passionate home chef.
What lead you to SOUL and how do you like your system?
When it came to finding a company for a few performance and sound options my search led me to Soul Performance – a local company that came highly recommended to me by fellow members of the PCA and new friends I made at “Cars & Coffee”. I wanted to not only enjoy the way the car felt on the road or on the track, but also hear it. The base exhaust is very subtle and lacks the “sports car” sound I was looking for. Now with my new upgrades I am driving a true sports car. The team at Soul Performance are not only great at what they are doing, but during the whole development process they became great friends as well.
Current mod list / Future plans for your car?
I participated in SOUL’s 997.2 exhaust development and after hearing all configurations I went with their first Competition Headers and Center Muffler Bypass – very nice to hear the engine so clearly with a big roar. The other day I picked my son up from school and when I fired up the car, all the kids out front snapped their necks to hear it which just confirmed I made the right choice! I think an ECU tune is the next logical step and a few more upgrades to help on the track will come in time.
If you could own any car what would it be?
I would have to stay with Porsche and go for the GT2 RS although I would miss the manual shifting but I am sure I can get over this once I hit the track.
