Porsche 992.2 Turbo S SOUL Performance Exhaust System

We took our extensive experience with the 3.6L / T-Hybrid system from the GTS and prepared to optimize the new twin-turbo setup on the 992.2 Turbo S. With our own Turbo S dedicated to development, we had the freedom to put in the time and mileage necessary to pursue our objective: a complete, non-valved Performance Exhaust System delivering the best possible power gains and sound. After months of research, development, and real-world testing, we’re proud to offer a system packed with proven features designed to deliver a refined yet exciting driving experience across all driving conditions. 

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

The eTurbo turbocharger in the T-Hybrid system offers an advantage over a traditional turbo design. To guarantee sustained performance with an ideal air-fuel mixture ratio, Porsche uses a very large exhaust diameter. Without assistance from the eTurbo, these larger flow cross-sections in the exhaust components would result in significant turbo lag. The electric motors drastically shorten the time required for the turbos to spool up, meaning that full boost pressure is consistently available within a very short time. This ensures that the engine maintains the ideal air-fuel mixture ratio and still builds up torque quickly – almost immediately. In spite of this potential for incredible flow, exhaust gases are choked by massive GPF filters and restrictive catalytic converters thanks to ever-growing sound and stringent emissions regulations. By increasing the average exhaust-pipe diameter from 2.75” to 3.5”, incorporating custom high flow SOUL catalytic converters, and eliminating the GPF filters, we significantly increased the system’s flow capacity to support maximum performance. 

The merge between the two exhaust banks is critical to creating the right exhaust character. Keeping the exhaust flow from both banks separate created a harsh, tractor-like note in the uncorked exhaust system. We then moved to a traditional X-pipe which effectively smoothed out the tone – but we knew there was still room for improvement.

Our fleet of 3D metal printers gives us the ability to rapidly craft previously unattainable advanced designs with optimized internal flow paths and internal sound control features. Using detailed 3D scans of the factory exhaust system and the underside of the vehicle, we began exploring new ways to shape and refine the exhaust note. 

After thousands of miles of testing—including torture testing during the Dragon Rally—and nine design revisions, we developed our optimized “XY”-pipe. Rather than simply crossing the two banks, the XY-pipe incorporates a shared central chamber with carefully calculated merge and bypass sections that allow a controlled amount of exhaust flow between banks. The result is a perfectly blended exhaust note that is robust, smoother, more refined, and higher-pitched—an exhaust character befitting of a Porsche!

With the final XY-pipe design performing exceptionally well in digital flow simulations, we moved on to completing the system. We went to great lengths to replicate the factory GPF pressure differentials and O2 sensor behavior, helping minimize the potential for a CEL on otherwise untuned vehicles. 

Upon proving exceptional results on the dyno and optimizing the system’s sound and tone, we took our extensive experience with calculating helmholtz chambers to refine the system even further by incorporating anti-drone canisters specifically engineered to target and eliminate cabin drone in the 2,000–2,500 RPM range. 

SATISFYING SOUND

• Inside the cabin, the experience is refined and full of turbocharged flat-six character—without the reverberation, harshness, buzzing, or booming. Expect sophistication both on and off the throttle. 

• Drone not found – converse during cruising with comfort on the highway.

• Enjoy a tasteful amount and volume of burbles on deceleration.

• The exhaust note outside the vehicle is incredibly smooth with a desirable amount of volume. Flying under the radar is possible when cruising, and turning heads are expected with the power pedal pinned.

INCREASE PERFORMANCE

By eliminating the GPF filters and upgrading to optimized catalytic converters flowing through a larger diameter exhaust tract, the massive increase in efficiency results in better response and a noticeably harder pull throughout the power curve. During independent dyno testing at Vollux Autowerks with hardware only on our development car revealed max gains of over 100 ft-lbs of torque at 2,500 RPMs and roughly 55 whp and 45 ft-lbs of torque at 6,300 RPM on 93 pump gas. Thanks to the Porsche eTurbo system, the gains come in immediately as if the engine has experienced an increase in displacement. It’s important to note that gains in the midrange are limited on factory tuning due to torque management programming. Our tuning partner, M-Engineering, has seen impressive power gains realized throughout the entire power band during development of aftermarket software.

Water jet cut brackets are made to ISO 9001:2015 standards with ultra-tight tolerances of +/- 0.003 inches for extreme precision

Back purged TIG welding (with ARCAL™ Prime argon gas) ensures proper weld penetration for exceptional strength and longevity

Fabricated using thick-gauge aluminum fixtures that act as a heat sink during the welding process to prevent any warpage

BOLT-ON AND GO

Every component undergoes rigorous quality control and is fixture-tested to guarantee precise fitment. After passing QC, each Turbo S exhaust system is carefully foam-packed to ensure it arrives in perfect condition. The system retains the factory O2 sensor locations and reuses the factory heat shields, helping protect the underside of the vehicle from radiant heat. Valve delete modules are included to prevent any check engine lights from removal of the factory valves in the side mufflers.
